Here’s some good news: Disney is finally celebrating the first-ever official LGBT Pride event with “Magical Pride.” The bad news is that you have to fly all the way to Paris, France in June of this year.
“Magical Pride” will allow late-night access to the Disneyland park, a dance party complete with DJs and live music and karaoke, meet-and-greet with Disney characters, and “Magical March of Diversity Parade” the park.
Magical Pride: First official Disney event
As their website proclaims: “Dress like a dream, feel fabulous and experience Walt Disney Studios Park like never before– loud, proud and alive with all the colours of the rainbow.”
Likewise, it states: “Celebrating diversity at the place where dreams come true, Magical Pride warmly welcomes anyone and everyone to come and party, play and stay at Disneyland Paris.”
An organizer of Disney told CBS News that “Magical Pride” is the first official Pride event by Disney, with Disney partnering with LGBT Instagram influencers and bloggers.
The Disney website now has updated packages, which include two-three nights at a Disney hotel, a two-day Disney Park Hopper Ticket, early access to select attractions and entrance into the Magical Pride Party.
A Walt Disney Co. spokesperson told NBC News: “Diversity and equality are strong values at Disneyland Paris, and each year, we host millions of visitors regardless of their origins, gender or sexual orientation.”
“We are committed to fostering a welcoming environment for all of our Guests where magic is for everyone,” the spokesperson said.
Unofficial Magical Pride at Disneyland parks
Unofficial Pride events have previously happened at Disney parks, and Disney parks have been welcoming of the LGBT community before.
For example, Cinderella’s Castle allowed same-sex weddings in 2007 and Disney introduced rainbow Mickey Mouse ears in 2018.
While there used to be an unofficial Pride LGBT event at the Disneyland in Anaheim, California in the 1990s, this had stopped already.
However, an unofficial version, Gay Days Anaheim, happens annually– set for this year on October 4-6. During this event, the LGBT community shows up at the Disney park for a get-together complete in matching gear.
In Florida, the LGBT community hold Gay Days Orlando at Walt Disney World for a week– this year on August 13-19.
More importantly, Magical Pride used to be the unofficial event of the LGBT community in the Paris Disneyland.
For those who are willing to jet over to Paris to celebrate Pride in Disneyland Paris, package price ranges from about $340 to $2,400 per person.
