Early Music Vancouver launches Emerging Artist Competition

Early Music Vancouver (EMV) has announced a competition for emerging early music artists worldwide. The competition runs from May 1st to May 15th, 2023, and the winner will be announced on June 1st, 2023. This competition aims to give young artists an opportunity to explore and showcase their ideas, research, and new projects.

Applicants are required to create a musical project based on what they think the next generation of early music might look like. The project should focus on creative ways to present early music, highlighting issues that are important to them. Emerging early music artists who are 30 years of age or younger can apply by submitting a 3-5 minute audio or video file in MP4 format to staff@earlymusic.bc.ca.

The winner of this competition will receive a cash prize of $500 and will be featured on EMV’s website and social media platforms. Second place will receive a cash prize of $350, and third place will be featured on EMV’s website and social media platforms.

EMV’s Artistic & Executive Director, Suzie LeBlanc, C.M., believes that young artists of the next generation need opportunities to explore and showcase their ideas, research, and new projects. With this competition, EMV aims to help spread the voice of the next generation of early music artists and give their projects a place to be heard by a wider community.

Early Music Vancouver is a not-for-profit society that promotes historically informed performances of early music in Vancouver and the Lower Mainland. The organization aims to create an environment where early music can thrive, fostering a community of musicians, scholars, and music lovers who appreciate this unique art form.
