2020 starts, with a highly significant Lunar Eclipse. The Full Moon at 18° Cancer falls on January 10, 2020. The Sun will be in alignment with Mercury, Saturn, and Pluto in Capricorn, all opposing the Full Moon. This is another milestone celestial event related to the Saturn/Pluto conjunction which has been shaping the zeitgeist of the world over the past few years. Eclipses serve as triggers for underlying issues that are coming to a head. And with Saturn and Pluto involved, there are a lot of heavy underpinnings, mostly about power, resources, and money.
I’ve always likened astrology to a weather report. It gives a prediction of the prevailing elements, how they will most likely interact, and what the resulting “weather” will be. It’s not set in stone, but we can get a pretty darn good idea of what to expect. That might not sound too good to some, since “you can’t change the weather.” But you can certainly prepare for it, and even take advantage of it in many cases. The “weather” that Saturn and Pluto have spawned has a direct relationship with the worldwide rise of the populist authoritarians. Looking at it that way, Donald Trump becomes more of a logical meteorological event than an upset.
But the pendulum is always in motion, and the wave of energy that brought humanity to these current lessons is not static. During 2020, the pendulum is just about to swing the other way. But this pendulum moves pretty slowly. And the events that have been set in motion over the last few years will reverberate far into the future. The good news is, if you are a fan of democracy, it is still intact in key places in this world at the moment. The message of 2020 is going to be about keeping it that way.
Of course, the eyes of the world will be on the US election in 2020. I’m not quite ready to make a prediction about the outcome, but at the moment, unless something really wild happens, it’s looking like Trump vs Biden to me, as it has for a while. I will continue to write about this all year long, so stay tuned.
In our personal lives, the pairing of Saturn and Pluto is having a huge impact as well. Young people born in 1990 are having a super-sized and extra challenging Saturn Return. Same goes for those who are just about 59 and experiencing their second Saturn Return. Many people are getting big reality checks about core issues that affect their lives. This can be quite an affront in some cases, but it is also a wake-up call, and a call to action. Capricorn isn’t just about revealing problems. It’s also about solving them. It’s a time to face your fears and step up to the plate. Be realistic in your choices. Take responsibility. And don’t be afraid to tackle the big stuff in your life. In 2020, Saturn and Pluto will reach a high point and then Saturn will start to move on. This is a huge opportunity to break any sort of gridlock that may have been affecting you. Onward and upward!
Earth Signs Rule! There a consortium of planets in Earth Signs in 2020, bringing our individual and collective focus to the practical matters at hand. Jupiter is in Capricorn for most of the year, letting us know that we’ll be more fortunate if we’re willing to work for it. The messages of Uranus in Taurus continue to unfold, with major revelations about climate, food production, and monetary systems. And Saturn and Pluto continue their fateful conjunction, letting us know that when all is said and done, we are responsible for what happens next. Earth Signs are related to everything physical, including the Earth upon which we stand. The best way to use this earthy power is by taking direct action. The pitfall will come through complacency and going along with the status quo.
The Sun Enters Air Sign Aquarius on January 21, 2020. Get moving with your new ideas and connect up with people who share your enthusiasm. The Sun will square Uranus for a few days, bringing the need to change into sharp focus. Be patient with yourself. If you need to bring positive change into your life, that affirmation is the place to start. Then you just need to get a short list of action steps together and things will start to happen. And as some wise person once put it, “change happens, one little step at a time.”
There’s a New Moon at 04° Aquarius on January 20, 9:16 PST. Aquarius comes in as a breath of fresh air after all of the Capricorn intensity from the last few weeks. The catch with this New Moon is the tense square to Uranus in Taurus. This could lead to a temporary sense of frustration and inertia. Don’t let it get to you. It will pass. The upside of this New Moon is definitely the lovely lineup of artsy Venus with Mystical Neptune in Pisces. This will be a fantastic few days to connect deeply to your spiritual and creative side.
