k.d. lang and Tracy Young release Constant Craving remix

Constant Craving remix

A classic song has been remade with pop icon k.d. lang and producer Tracy Young collaborating to come up with a ‘Constant Craving’ remix for all ages.

Released on September 17 by Nonesuch Records, this new track is the first official remix of the Top 40 hit that won lang the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Performance in 1993.

The track is part of makeover, the remix album that features classical dance remixes of lang’s best loved songs from 1992 to 2000.

Coming up with a Constant Craving remix

The singer hadn’t originally considered having a remix of her much-beloved song: “When it came to my own music, I usually felt kind of protective.”

“I don’t think I initially had a real clear understanding of what remixes were, what they did, or what they were for, even though I spent a lot of time in the clubs,” lang said.

So when ‘Constant Craving’ was the single, her team wanted to do a remix of it– and she said, “No, I don’t want to touch it.”

“Of course, a lot of my music was remixed and did very well,” she added.

But when they were putting together the makeover compilation, she said “we realized we didn’t have a ‘Constant Craving’ remix! And that was why.”

Working the new mix in clubs

The new remix will debut at Miami Pride on September 19 and at Orlando Pride on October 10 during Young’s headlining DJ sets.

Young gushed: “Throughout my production career, I’ve always wanted to work with k.d. lang and to have remixed ‘Constant Craving’ is a true honor.”

“The song continues to resonate through generations and it speaks about the struggles of life and the resiliency of the human spirit– an inspirational message that is so needed right now,” Young said.

Meanwhile, lang said: “I had spent some time in Miami in the early ’90s hanging out and actually met Tracy Young in my social circles.”

“When her name came up to do the remix of ‘Constant Craving,’ it was a pleasant surprise to remember that she was a part of my pack, back in the day, so I’m very pleased to have Tracy’s fresh remix!” lang exclaimed.

The Constant Craving remix among remixes

The album makeover was released last May and it debuted at #1 on the electronic album chart. It includes #1 dance chart hits like “Lifted By Love” and “If I Were You.”

“Constant Craving” was originally released with lang’s second album, Ingénue, in 1992. Aside from a Grammy, it won lang an MTV Video Music Award for Best Female Video.

In 2017, Nonesuch released Ingénue: 25th Anniversary Edition, which included the original album and previously unreleased 1993 MTV Unplugged performances.

Meanwhile, the makeover album from Nonesuch includes a paper doll PDF set, designed by a fan, Katja Virtanen of Finland. This can be printed out at home, and shows lang’s iconic looks from throughout her career.

Likewise, the cover art features the previously unseen 1995 portrait of lang by David LaChapelle.

The album is available on all formats, including transparent turquoise vinyl.
