Bryan Borland & JP Howard: Poetry on grief…
Bryan Borland, the founder and publisher of Sibling Rivalry Press, was recently honored by the American Library Association for his work as poet and editor.
Borland’s work– Less Fortunate Pirates: Poems from the First Year Without My Father and My Life as Adam— sought to express all the joys and sorrows that growing up queer touched upon.
He publishes Adrienne, a quarterly journal for queer and transsexual women, and is the founder and editor of Assaracus, a print journal for gay poets.
His range as both editor and poet is remarkable, and his beautiful poetry definitely qualifies him as an Emerging Writer awardee this 2016.
Bryan Borland & JP Howard: … and poetry of memory
Meanwhile, emerging writer Juliet (or JP) Howard represents women from all walks of life with her award-winning poetry and passion for supporting other women writers.
Howard is highly active as a teacher, community leader, poet, curator, and women’s literature advocate. She pushes for forums where women have a safe space to express and hone their creative writing.
Her debut collection, SAY/MIRROR, a narrative that speaks from history and memories of her mother, makes her a strong finalist for the award.
