We love Netflix and chilling so much, this is our second post about it. But this time, it doesn’t have to be a marathon and can end in just two hours, thanks to Netflix movies.
So ready your popcorn and your Saturday nights, because we present to you the lesbian Netflix and chill movie version.
Netflix movies #1: Heavenly Creatures
What Kate Winslet was to the world with 1997’s Titanic, she was to lesbians in Heavenly Creatures.
What’s more, this dark movie was directed by Peter Jackson of the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit movies.
There’s a lot of kissing and making out between the two childhood friends who live in their fantasy world, so this movie was also romantic in a way.
An anecdote: Heavenly Creatures was inspired by real events. Juliet Hume, played by Winslet, was imprisoned for her deed.
After she got out, she went on to become a bestselling crime novelist and took on the name Anne Perry.
Netflix movie #2: Cloudburst
This is like Thelma and Louise but more feel good and outright lesbian.
Two lovers, played by Olympia Dukakis and Brenda Fricker, escape from their nursing home so they can get married.
Originally a stage play, Cloudburst was a perennial crowd- and critic-favorite in every film festival it was shown.
Fricker said of the film: “I was so moved by it. The love story was so beautiful I couldn’t say no to it.”
Netflix movie #3: The Hours
Nobody ever referred to this movie as a lesbian movie, but we’re sure anybody who’s seen it probably said: “They’re all lesbians.”
After all, Meryl Streep was in a lesbian relationship and Julianne Moore kissed her best friend Kitty.
Lastly, it’s a movie about Virginia Woolf (portrayed by Nicole Kidman). We all know the lesbian affairs Woolf had.
Netflix movie #4: Tig
This film is a documentary about the comedian Tig Notaro, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012.
Documenting a period in her life after she underwent double mastectomy, the film showed her still touring and making people laugh.
Netflix movie #5: The Four-Faced Liar
This film– about four twenty-somethings spanning seven months– is as complicated as any modern relationship at that age.
Moreover, it’s a movie about deception, uncertainty, passion, and bonding over the novel Wuthering Heights.
But don’t be misled. For all its complications, it’s primarily a comedy.
Among the Netflix movies we cited, which would you watch first? Or do you have your own favorites? Sound off in the comments below.
