The problem of the LGBT workforce being targeted by President Donald Trump with the earlier revocation of workplace protections instituted during the Obama administration is that the LGBT are left helpless to ongoing discrimination.
Since he became a president, Donald Trump has slowly been going after LGBT rights one after the other– despite the continued spiel of his people that Trump is LGBT-friendly.
Unfortunately, the repeal of the executive workplace order to contractors not to discriminate against the LGBT workers means the LGBT workforce has no one to protect them against systematic discrimination in the workplace.
Trump’s promise on the LGBT workforce protection
President Trump’s first promise when he became president was to leave alone the order written up under the Obama administration.
Yet just a few days short of the 100 days, this was one of the things Trump repealed: an executive order to the federal government not to contract with companies that discriminated against sexual orientation and gender identity.
“Since taking office, Donald Trump has pushed an agenda that is designed to destroy lives and roll back progress,” said Rea Carey, executive director of the National LGBTQ Task Force.
“Everything he has done is detrimental to marginalized communities. His executive orders and actions dehumanize and devalue entire communities of people– including trans children, people of color and women,” Carey added.
The LGBT workforce and the US Census Bureau survey
It also was mind-boggling when the US Census Bureau deleted some questions in their survey about sexual orientation.
Without the said survey, nobody could tell if the person working is LGBT or straight– and it would be easier to deny that discrimination against the person is sexual orientation in nature.
“Their intent is clear,” Chad Griffin, the president of the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) said in a statement. “By denying we exist, the Trump administration hopes to deny us equality. It won’t work.”
Discrimination against the LGBT workforce
However, although President Trump is the highest, most powerful bully against LGBT in the workplace, this discrimination is being practiced in the whole America.
This discrimination ranges from getting hired, being promoted, and the pay LGBT workers are getting. Statistically, there are about four percent of the LGBT in the workplace.
The figure appears to be low because not everyone in the community who works want their sexuality documented on the statistics. A lot of them are also still in the closet.
Of the four percent, almost a quarter of them have complained of discrimination in the workplace. This is the reality of being an LGBT in the workplace.
Trump’s subtle bullying tactics may be reserved for now within the federal government, but discrimination is happening on a day-to-day basis to the LGBT workforce.
Right now, people are uncomfortable revealing their sexuality as the possibility of discrimination, harassment, and not being hired for being LGBT is real.
