If you’re looking for TV shows to watch for the coming 2021, here are a few LGBTQ actors or content to keep an eye out at the Fox Channel.
All of these shows are set to premiere this January so mark your calendars to avoid missing out!
LGBTQ actors: Leslie Jordan in ‘Call Me Kat’
Coming out January 3 next year is Call Me Kat, which stars Mayim Bialik as well as Leslie Jordan, Cheyenne Jackson, Kyla Pratt, and Swoosie Kurtz.
This show is based on the BBC UK original series, Miranda, created by Miranda Hart. The US show stars Emmy Award nominee Bialik of The Big Bang Theory fame.
Despite remonstration from her mother, Shiela (played by Kurtz), Bialik’s character Kat wants to succeed in life despite being single at 39. So she uses all her savings to open a cat café in Louisville, Kentucky.
It’s here that she works with Randi, played by Pratt, and Phil, played by Emmy Award-winner and gay icon Jordan (who we all remember as Karen Walker’s nemesis Beverly Leslie in Will & Grace).
The 64-year old Jordan has recently become an Instagram star during the pandemic by sharing his many views even as he shelters in place in his hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
LGBTQ actors: The return of ‘9-1-1’
Meanwhile, the procedural drama TV show 9-1-1 returns for its fourth reason on January 18 with several queer characters played by Aisha Hinds, Oliver Stark, Ryan Guzman, and Rockmond Dunbar.
For those who’ve seen the first few seasons, you’ll probably know that regular cast member Hinds plays Henrietta ‘Hen’ Wilson, a lesbian firefighter with a wife played by Tracie Thoms.
Created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear, 9-1-1 features LA’s police officers, firefighters, and dispatchers– with the upcoming season opening with an earthquake and a tsunami!
Aside from the aforementioned cast, the series also stars Angela Bassett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Kenneth Choi, Peter Krause, John Harlan Kim, Corinne Massiah, Marcanthonee Reis, and Gavin McHugh.
LGBTQ actors: Another ‘9-1-1’ is back
A spinoff of 9-1-1, 9-1-1: LONE STAR will also return back-to-back on January 18. This show– now on its second season– is also created by Murphy, Falchuk, and Minear.
The show set in Austin, Texas features trans actor Brian Michael Smith in a major role as Paul Strickland, as well as queer characters played by Ronen Rubinstein and Rafael Silva (who’s also gay).
Moreover, the show stars Gina Torres, Rob Lowe, Lisa Edelstein, Jim Parrack, Sierra McClain, Natacha Karam, and Julian Works.
