The Los Angeles Pride 2018 is still months away but it has its theme as well as the headliners for the festival.
The first wave of performers announced for the festival are R&B sensation Kehlani and Swedish pop star Tove Lo, who will appear on June 9 and 10, Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Meanwhile, the LA Pride event will have the slogan “JustBe,” which celebrates the diversity of the community as well as a reminder of the self-expression and authenticity of the LGBTQ+ community.
Los Angeles Pride 2018: Kehlani and Tove Lo
Organized by the non-profit organization Christopher Street West (CSW), the LA Pride Festival will cap the celebrations of Pride Week of the Los Angeles Pride 2018.
The first of the two headliners of the festival is Kehlani, an openly bisexual and rising hip-hop star who will perform on June 9.
The other headliner is the multi-platinum artist Tove Lo, who will perform on June 10 and has also spoken about her bisexuality.
“Kehlani and Tove Lo are two of the most daring women in music today. We’re excited to see how they’ll lead the raw and authentic voice of this year’s festival,” CSW board member Gregory Alexander said in a press release.
Aside from Kehlani and Tove Lov, there will be more announcements coming of the different performers. Likewise, they’ll also announce the Marshals of the Los Angeles Pride 2018 soon.
The Los Angeles Pride 2018 is scheduled to take over West Hollywood Park along San Vicente Boulevard and in the Pacific Design Center Plaza.
Los Angeles Pride 2018: Calling for #JustBe
With regard to the theme of the Los Angeles Pride 2018, the organization has declared it as “#JUSTBE.
“#JUSTBE is a deeply personal invitation for self-expression that, we hope, will empower members of the LGBTQ+ community– as well as our very important straight allies– to embrace, embody, and express what Pride truly means to them in the rawest, most authentic ways possible,” said Shayne Thomas, CSW Board Member and Marketing and Communications Lead.
Chris Classen, CSW Board President, added: “LA Pride isn’t LA Pride without the marvelous people who make up our uniquely diverse community. #JUSTBE is a testament to that.”
The group also reiterated the history and origins of the event in relation to the LGBTQ+ Rights Movement, saying this is “an opportunity to commemorate the many brave souls who came before us, who fought day and night for our rights and freedoms– all in the spirit of justice and equality.”
Last year, the LA Pride converted their Pride Parade into a #ResistMarch to protest the encroaching moves against LGBTQ rights under the Trump administration.
