Love Me Lex: LGBTQ+ Web Series
The highly anticipated Australian web series, “Love Me Lex,” is set to premiere on the sapphic streaming platform Lesflicks last September 1, 2023. Created by writer and director Sanja Katich, this seven-episode series follows the journey of Lex, a 40-something woman navigating the challenges of the lesbian dating world. The series promises drama, comedy, and romance, offering a much-needed representation of women in the 45+ age bracket within the LGBTQ+ community.
Funded primarily by Screen Australia and bolstered by The Sapphic Investment Film Fund and Infinite Pies Productions, “Love Me Lex” was filmed in Western Australia in 2021. It has already gained attention at film festivals, including the WA Made Film Festival and Revelation International Film Festival, receiving accolades for its heartwarming portrayal of love and relationships.
What sets this release apart is its connection to the Sapphic Investment Film Fund, a collaboration between Lesflicks and Infinite Pies Productions aimed at supporting independent, sapphic screen content. This funding initiative seeks to bring forth more minority-led projects, including those featuring lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and non-binary narratives.
Sanja Katich, an openly queer woman with a background in writing about Australian queer shows, passionately brought this series to life. Acknowledging the lack of representation for middle-aged women in the LGBTQ+ screen space, Katich envisioned “Love Me Lex” to resonate with a demographic often overlooked by mainstream media.
The premiere on Lesflicks, a platform run by the community for the community, underscores the collective effort to amplify LGBTQ+ voices and stories. Lesflicks was founded to bridge the gap between content creators and an audience eager for authentic sapphic narratives. The platform’s mission is to ensure that diverse stories, including those of love and romance, are celebrated and made accessible to all.
