September is an important turning point. There are two major planetary changes of direction that will set the stage for the remainder of this eventful year. Knowledge of planetary shifts can help us make better decisions, similar to using weather reports to help make our plans. We also have a seasonal change coming up this month, as Autumn Equinox occurs on September 22, 2020.
Mars goes retrograde in Aries on September 9, 2020. Mars represents our energy and desires. And Mars ruled Aries is the God of War. This is a tough one. There’s lots of pent up energy just waiting to blow. People are cranky, and in some cases, looking to pick a fight. People are also more likely to misinterpret someone’s actions as provocative and then retaliate. This is not a great time to launch a big, new project. It would be best to wait until mid-November for that. But the most important word to the wise has to do with conflict and ways to avoid it. It is NOT a great time to get into a legal battle with someone. There’s an old saying in astrology, “During Mars retrograde, he who fires the first shot, loses.” Better to let someone make the first move, if conflict is impossible to avoid. If there are good things that arise from Mars retrograde, they will come from turning inward, being diplomatic, and finding ways to compromise, even if you don’t feel like it. The problem is, people don’t like doing that! Mostly, people want what they want and they want it now. During Mars retrograde, being less attached to your wants and more considerate of others will help a ton!
Jupiter goes Direct on September 12, 2020. Even though Mars just made a U-turn, Jupiter just got back on the freeway is starting to pick up some speed. This is good news, as benefits will begin to roll in regarding business and finance. This should help with the beleaguered economy, which will be a boon to all.
Biting Through: While reflecting on the energy coming in this September, I was reminded of I Ching Hexagram 21, Shi Ho, or Biting Through. This hexagram represents a mouth with a piece of food between the teeth. Think of biting through a big, crunchy carrot. You have to give it a good bite to get it in your mouth so you can chew it up. This symbol is about taking energetic action to remove an obstacle. With the help of laws and penalties, we are able to overcome difficulties caused by criminals and wrong-doers. This hexagram is related to criminal lawsuits, among other things.
In life it is necessary to achieve unity and agreement with others, both personally and socially. And when obstacles to harmony arise, we must attempt to resolve them. Often times, progress is blocked because of the self-serving or treacherous actions of others. When situations come to a head, something needs to be done to prevent negative or harmful consequences. Serious problems do not tend to vanish on their own. This is why judgement and punishment are necessary to create a path to progress and harmony for the greater good of all concerned.
But it is important to proceed with integrity and do things the right way. Vigilantism is not the solution. Harshness and aggression would be too violent when punishing the guilty. Gentleness and leniency would be too weak. Justice would only be truly served through a balanced response. The person who is making the judgement must be both reasonable and strong in their decisions. Keeping this in mind will help if you are in the position where decisive action is required.
There’s a Full Moon at 10° Pisces, September 1, 2020 at 10:22 PM PDT. Full Moons bring situations to their fullest point. Then, energy will be released and things will begin to wind down until a new cycle begins with the New Moon. Pisces is related to compassion and spirituality. It is associated with the impulse to aid those who are suffering and in need of help and assistance. Virgo is related to work, service to others, and physical healing. Affirmations or rituals about healing and spirituality would be of great value on this Full Moon.
There’s a New Moon at 25° Virgo on September 17, 2020 at 4:00 AM PDT. This New Moon corresponds to a powerful astrological opportunity period that will be in effect from 3:30 AM until 4:30 AM. Get up early and take advantage of this window to get important projects started. Earth Sign Virgo is particularly good for anything related to work and career. Use this to guide you in setting intentions and creating affirmations for the new cycle. A ritual designed to manifest work opportunities would be particularly potent during this New Moon. This would also be true for magic directed towards physical healing.
Autumn Equinox arrives on September 22, 2020. The Sun enters Air Sign Libra, setting the stage for activities that will create harmony and bring people together. Consider joining in on a Fall Equinox Ritual if you know of one. Or host one yourself! This is the season to celebrate the harvest and show our gratitude. This is a great time to donate to the foodbank as a symbol of sharing Autumn’s bounty. It’s also a time to foster balance and harmony with others. Libra, the sign of The Scales, is also associated with justice and fairness, which will have great on-going significance as the Fall cycle unfolds. Issues concerning personal and business relationships will also be important in the coming weeks.
Opportunity Days: September 2, 3, 7, 8, 14, 15, 20, 21, 22, and 30
