British Singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé has just declared on social media that she said yes to the marriage proposal of classical pianist Yoana Karemova.

In an Instagram post last September 21, Sandé showed off her engagement ring with a caption, “I said yes!”

Karemova also made her announcement in her own post with an accompanying cake: “I just would like to say we are forever together!!”

“So happy you replied with YES. Thank you everyone for your love and support, so truly appreciated,” she added.

In what’s been described as a whirlwind romance, the two had met while Sandé was recording her 2022 album, Let’s Say for Instance, which Karemova helped her to record.

In an interview with the Metro last March, Sandé came out, declaring: “I just feel like I should fall in love with whoever I fall in love with.”

“We met through music, and I definitely feel happier than ever,” she added. However, she didn’t say who she was going out with.

“For me, true love and having love in your life makes everything fit into place,” she said.

A few days later, she revealed she was in a relationship with Karemova in a social media post. She said, “I’m so lucky to have found my soulmate Yoana, she’s such an extraordinary woman!”

Coming out was also a “huge weight” that was lifted from her, Sandé admitted. She said there was pressure not to come out publicly while she was working in the music industry.

Though nothing was said to her directly, she said she got a feeling from the record label that they wanted her to not come out for fear that it would affect her career.

She said it took “many years to find the strength to be myself” and it was Karemova who had given her the strength to do it.

She also said it “feels so good to be in love and I feel happier than ever. I’m deeply touched by all your messages of love and support.”

In a more recent post, Sandé said of Karemova: “When I look in your eyes, feels like I’ve just seen heaven for the very first time.”

Some facts about the lovely couple

Sandé had been previously married to her long-time partner, Adam Gouraguine, a marine biologist, in 2012. However, they separated two years later.

In 2017, she was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire for services to music. And in 2019, she was appointed as the new chancellor of the University of Sunderland.

Her album was released last May, receiving positive reviews and reaching number five in the UK Independent Albums chart.

Meanwhile, Karemova– born in Bulgaria but is now London-based– had released her first album of classical piano, Waves, last 2019.
