The Walking Dead to feature LGBT, interracial relationships

The Walking Dead

If you’ve been watching the TV horror series, “The Walking Dead,” a lot has been happening: in particular, the show now features more interracial and LGBT relationships.

In the middle of season 9, six years has passed since a major character, Rick Grimes (played by Andrew Lincoln), had disappeared and was presumed dead by his friends and allies.

In the six years since then, new characters had arrived and old characters had paired off and settled down with Paul Tassi of Forbes Magazine pointing out the difference that happened since then.

The Walking Dead: Interracial relationships

The previous season had Rick and the katana-wielding Michonne (Danai Gurira) getting together. Michonne had even became a surrogate mother to Rick’s children, Carl (before he died) and Judith.

Six years later, Michonne is the mother of pre-teen Judith (Chloe Garcia-Frizzi) and Carl, Jr. (yes, she got pregnant with Rick). She’s also now the leader of the community of Alexandria.

Meanwhile, badass former housewife Carol (Melissa McBride) is now married to Ezekiel (Khary Payton), the head of the community of Kingdom, and they’ve adopted Henry (Matt Lintz).

There’s also a relationship between Rosita (Christian Serratos) and the former priest Gabriel (Seth Gilliam).

Gabriel had formerly been with Anne (Pollyanna McIntosh), who’d been kidnapping other survivors before she had Rick abducted by her mysterious allies.

There’s also Jerry (Cooper Andrews) and Nabila (Nadine Marissa), members of the Kingdom community and minor characters as of this season.

The Walking Dead: LGBT relationships

So how about the LGBT characters in the show? Have any new LGBT relationships developed in the past six years?

Aaron (Ross Marquand) was the recruiter who led Rick’s group of survivors to the Alexandria community. He was also in a relationship with Eric (Jordan Woods-Robinson) before the latter died in a battle.

After the war, Aaron had hitched up with Jesus (Tom Payne), who is now the leader of the Hilltop community.

Likewise, there’s a new couple on the block with a lesbian couple in Magna and Yumiko, played by Nadia Hilker and Eleanor Matsuura, who are part of a new group brought in by Judith.

We do wonder if Tara (Alanna Masterson), who was the only lesbian in the group of survivors prior to Magna and Yumiko, has paired up with anyone in the six years.

During the past seasons, Tara had lost two girlfriends, which led fans to tag the show with the hashtag #buryyourgays (related to TV shows that killed off their LGBT characters).
