Our favorite UFC fighter Amanda “The Lioness” Nunes has taken on and defeated Cris “Cyborg” Justino in the first women’s MMA superfight!
During the UFC 232 held in Los Angeles last Saturday, Nunes faced off against Justino in what was billed as the battle between two of the most dominant forces in women’s MMA today.
The end result? Nunes took down the indestructible Cyborg in 51 seconds and took the UFC featherweight title from her grasp.
An improved UFC fighter Amanda Nunes
The match-up between Nunes and Justino couldn’t have been more exciting. Justino had the size and power advantage, mauling her opponents throughout her long career.
Meanwhile, Nunes had been steadily improving as she won over other highly-touted women fighters like Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, and Valentina Shevchenko.
That’s because when Nunes first signed with the UFC in 2013, she was seen as talented but inconsistent, losing out to Cat Zingano in her early matches.
But then she signed up with American Top Team and she has steadily improved her speed and accuracy.
Amanda Nunes vs Cris Cyborg
In her battle with Justino, Nunes had to move up 10 pounds. And it took her 51 seconds to take down the Cyborg despite being regarded as the undergog in the fight.
What’s more, Nunes took on the power of the Cyborg and kept returning it, stunning Justino in the opening round and buckling her knees.
She continued punching, sending Justino down twice. The last punch that mattered was an overhand right to the ear that dropped Justino to the canvas.
“When she connected, that I felt it, I thought right away, ‘Now, I’m going to do my strategy because nothing stops me’,” Nunes said in the post-fight press conference.
“If her best punch didn’t stop me, nothing is going to stop me here now,” she added.
The greatest UFC fighter Amanda Nunes
Many of the other MMA fighters and commentators were awestruck of Nunes’ achievement.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan declared: “Out of all the potential outcomes, first round KO by Amanda Nunes like that, all the things we’ve said in the past, that Amanda Nunes has ridiculous knock out power, man did you see it tonight.”
UFC champion Daniel Cormier tweeted: “Holy shit @Amanda_Leoa !!!!! #doublechamp great job young lady!”
Meanwhile, UFC fighter Felice Herrig tweeted: “Omg what did I just watch?? Amanda Nunes is a F***inf beast !!!”
Justino also had good words to say about Nunes: “Amanda had to always prove it. She beat Ronda, she beat many girls. I think she was never valued as she should be. Maybe with this win she will be.”
Even UFC president Dana White was all praises for Nunes: “She’s the best ever. How can you deny it? That’s what this fight was for, to find out. But if you look at her resume, she’s the best ever.”
The recent win by Nunes now makes her the first woman to earn two titles in the UFC– the UFC Bantamweight Champion as well as the UFC Featherweight Champion– with some saying she is the GOAT (Greatest of All Time).
