With a challenging monicker like the X-Names, you’d think that they should be damn good. Fortunately, this DJ duo of Camila Grey and Kate Moennig are more than worthy of their name with their trademark tomboyish style, sexy swagger, and killer turntables.
If you know what’s good for you, you can catch the two at to the largest lesbian event in the planet: The Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs, California.
The X-Names: A passion and a life for music
This DJ partnership might seem to be an odd pairing, with Uh Huh Her’s lead singer, Camila Grey and Showtime Network’s The L Word star, Kate Moennig (better known as Shane McCutcheon).
However, the two have one thing in common: they both love music. It’s part of their life and their passion.
On one hand, Camila had studied Jazz and majored in Music Business at the Berklee College of Music. She’s gone on tour with Adam Lambert, Dr. Dre, Busta Rhymes, Tricky, Melissa Auf Der Maur, Kelly Osbourne, Mellowdrone, Big Black Delta, and her own band Uh Huh Her.
She’s also currently promoting and DJ-ing at an exclusive dance party in Los Angeles called LUC alongside DJ Kim Anh (Booby Trap/Yowsah).
On the other hand, Kate used to DJ in her NYC days where she would spin music at house parties and clubs in the East Village. Though she’s moved on from The L Word, she can be seen in Showtime’s Ray Donovan. Moreover, she’s currently spinning at LUC as well.
The X-Names: Spinning music the way they like it
As The X-Names, the two spin a wide range of music: Indy, Deep House, Darkwave, Nuwave, Nowave, Electro, Disco, Hip-Hop, 70’s and 80’s.
They’ve also recently played for Stella McCartney and Amour Vert
“(The X-Names) both bring the same dedication and passion to their DJing art as they have to music and acting,” said Mariah Hanson, founder and producer of The Dinah.
Both Camila and Kate have appeared before at The Dinah, Camila with her electro-pop band Uh Huh Her, and Kate as one of the celebrity guests.
But as the X-Names, this will be the first time both will appear at The Dinah.
