Audre Lorde’s Inspiring Message: Freedom for All Women
“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.” – Audre Lorde
It is not enough to only fight for our own rights and freedoms as members of the LGBT+ community. Our liberation is tied to the liberation of all women, regardless of their race, religion, or sexual orientation. We must recognize that our struggles may be different, but they are not separate.
Audre Lorde, a lesbian poet and civil rights activist, reminds us that we must stand up for one another and work towards a world where no woman is shackled by oppression. When we fight against discrimination and inequality, we are fighting for the freedom of all women.
We must also recognize that our liberation is not complete until we address the intersectionality of our struggles. Trans women, women of color, disabled women, and women from other marginalized groups face unique challenges in society that we must acknowledge and work to overcome.
Let us continue to fight for our own rights and freedoms, but let us also fight for the rights and freedoms of all women. Together, we can create a world where every woman is free.
