Does Ben Affleck have a love-hate relationship with lesbians?
What’s up with Ben Affleck? With the availability for online viewing of Affleck’s directorial debut, there’s one thing you’d think about the actor-director.
Either he loves us lesbians so much– or he really, really hates us.
Ben Affleck directed a movie
In 1993, Ben the A-list star wasn’t born yet. He was still on the fringes on Hollywood, going from one movie audition to another.
Although he called those pre-stardom years “fun times,” it was also the first time he directed something: a 15-minute satirical film called I Killed My Lesbian Wife, Hung Her on a Meat Hook, and Now I Have a Three-Picture Deal at Disney.
“It’s about how we sometimes forgive the lunatic behaviour of artists and call it eccentricity,” Ben described the movie during an interview with The Guardian.
Likewise, he’s said: “It’s horrible. It’s atrocious. I knew I wanted to be a director, and I did a couple of short films, and this is the only one that haunts me. I’m not proud of it. It looks like it was made by someone who has no prospects, no promise.”
While some would say it is his worst film– he’s the first to admit that the only thing good about it was the title– we want to ask, “But what about Armageddon?” (Or Gigli?!? – Ed)
Real question time for Ben Affleck
So, back to our point: what is it with Ben and his movies with lesbian characters?
As we noted earlier, either he loves lesbians so much that he wants them to be his girlfriend.
Or, he hates lesbians so much he thinks he’s on a mission to make them realize they only need a man– a Ben Affleck-kind of man– to make them straight.
If you’ve seen his movies that have lesbian characters, you’d notice that there’s a pattern of him converting true-blue lesbians. Maybe this is his celluloid fantasy?
Ben Affleck in Chasing Amy and Gigli
Take Chasing Amy for example, wherein Joey Lauren Adams’ lesbian character is wooed by Ben’s goofy main character.
While personally we didn’t mind the sudden change of sexuality– hey, pansexuality, you know— a lot of our sisters were a little let down by this.
And who’s the culprit, thumping his chest like a male Alpha gorilla on his triumph in the movie? Ben Affleck.
Then there’s Gigli, where Ben worms his way into the heart of Jennifer Lopez both on-screen and off.
If you’ve watched it, Jennifer’s character is a lesbian named Ricki who falls in love at the end of the movie with– yes, Ben frickin’ Affleck.
We do know that Ben has done his share in supporting the LGBTQ cause. So yeah, we’re just faintly amused about the whole thing.
In fact, playing off on rumors of his gay romance with his bro and fellow actor Matt Damon, Ben once told an LGBT audience during the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston: “You know… my partner and I, Matt Damon, have done more for raising the profile and awareness for gay men in this city than anyone in the last 10 years.”
Still, one thing we’ve noticed is that he gets the lesbians through an intimate confession of how he feels for them. So just watch out when Ben looks like he’s about to confess something to you.
We’re on to you, Ben.
