Pew survey on influence gains

Blacks, women, gays, and lesbians to gain under Biden: Pew survey

Gays and lesbians, as well as Black people and women, are expected to gain influence under the Biden presidency, according to a new Pew survey.

The survey, conducted by the Pew Research Center survey from January 8-12, assessed the views of 5,360 adults and compared these to the public’s views from four years ago at the start of the Trump presidency.

Pew survey on losers and gainers

With Joe Biden as the president, 60 percent of those surveyed said gay and lesbian people will gain influence in the next four years.

Likewise, 63 percent expect that women will gain influence under the present administration, while 65 percent said Black people will gain influence.

However, 14 percent expect Black people will influence, while 20 percent think they will not be affected. Moreover, around 10 percent expect women as well as gay and lesbian people will lose influence.

On the other hand, 50 percent said evangelical Christians are expected to lose influence under Biden, with only nine percent expecting them to gain influence, and 39 percent saying they won’t be affected.

What’s more, 38 percent expect White people will lose influence under Biden against 15 percent who expect they will gain from it. Meanwhile, 46 percent expect White people won’t be affected.

Other survey losers and gainers

The survey also reported other groups expected to gain influence. These include younger people with 54 percent, Hispanic people with 53 percent, poor people with 50 percent, and unions with 48 percent.

Moreover, more Americans thought business corporations and the military will lose influence as compared to those who these will gain.

Those groups that are expected to gain more influence under the Biden administration were expected to lose influence at the start of the Trump administration four years ago.

What’s more, those groups that will gain influence were reportedly similar to the groups that would gain influence at the start of then-President Barack Obama’s term in 2009.

However, those Americans who say “people like yourself” will lose influence under the Biden presidency was around 36 percent as compared to those who will gain, with 24 percent.

These numbers were similar to those polled under the Trump presidency back then.

Pew survey on party differences

Further numbers on how gays and lesbians would gain influence also vary by political affiliation.

For example, 63 percent of Democrats believe gays and lesbians would gain influence, while 60 percent of Republicans believe the same.

However, 12 percent of Republicans and five percent of Democrats believe that this group would lose influence.

On a side note, 66 percent of Republicans and those that lean in that direction expect to lose influence while seven percent say they will gain influence.

However, 50 percent of Democrats think that they will not be affected while 40 percent think they will gain influence under the new administration.
