It’s a date for the BuzzFeed Queer Prom!
For those who want to relive their prom memories, or for those who wonder how it would have felt to have a prom that was accepting of those we love, the BuzzFeed Queer Prom is back the second time around!
This time, they’re taking over New York on June 1 as LGBTQ students from across the US gather to celebrate Pride and, of course, Graduation.
BuzzFeed Queer Prom: A safe space
More than anything, BuzzFeed’s Queer Prom is a safe space for the LGBTQ community (people of all gender identities and sexual orientations) to have the party they’ve always dreamed of.
BuzzFeed Creators Curly Velasquez and Jazzmyne Jay Robbins will be hosting the second annual BuzzFeed Queer Prom, which will be at the heart of New York City’s Meatpacking District.
In partnership with Samsung, the party will also have interactive experiences, dancing, and special appearances of celebrity allies and BuzzFeed talent.
Zach Overton, Vice President of Brand Experience at Samsung Electronics America, said: “We are proud to be partnering with BuzzFeed to celebrate inclusivity, acceptance and individuals who are truly defying barriers.”
“As a gay man, I am extremely proud of and inspired by Samsung’s continued work in support of– and advocacy for–the LGBTQ+ community and allies through partnerships and authentic consumer connections,” Overton said.
Be one of the lucky queer high school students
Since this is prom, we need to have LGBTQ students. That’s why students from across the country can submit their stories for a chance to be picked to attend the event.
Five lucky high school students will fly to New York and star in BuzzFeed’s three-part video series on the event as the official Queer Prom Court.
Aside from being brought to New York, they will get prom makeovers and be part of the official “Prom Kween” crowning ceremony.
“We are so excited to bring back Queer Prom for the second year in a row to give a night of inclusivity and pure acceptance to LGBTQ+ high schoolers and amazing content to show the rest of the world,” said event co-hosts Velasquez and Jay Robbins.
“BuzzFeed’s audience represents a diverse array of people from around the world and we strive to give a voice to underrepresented groups through identity-based content,” the two added.
LA’s successful BuzzFeed Queer Prom
The first BuzzFeed Queer Prom was held last year in Hollywood, California. There were also six lucky high school seniors selected from the thousands who joined the content.
While hundreds of high school seniors also attended from all over the the country attended the event, also present were celebrities actress Evan Rachel Wood, singer Adam Lambert, and actor Daniel Franzese.
Also present were Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying of Pentatonix, and Mayor Lauren Meister of West Hollywood.
Most importantly, these LGBTQ teens had the time of their lives while also being completely themselves. What’s not to like about this event, right?
