Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj Team Up for “Alone”
International pop sensation and Grammy-winning songwriter Kim Petras has released her highly anticipated new single “Alone” featuring diamond-selling hip-hop icon Nicki Minaj. The song is a steamy club banger about letting your impulses take control, and the single samples Alice Deejay’s Eurodance megahit “Better Off Alone,” a nod to the dance hits that Kim lost herself in during childhood to forget her problems.

Kim Petras is thrilled to collaborate with Nicki Minaj, one of her biggest inspirations as a songwriter and artist, and she couldn’t believe that her dream of working with Nicki had come true. She was on the floor and cried when Nicki sang the words “It’s Barbie and it’s Kim Petras,” a line from the song’s lyrics.
Kim Petras is a massively dynamic artist who has self-styled an impressive career, with more than two billion global streams, sold-out headline tours of North America and Europe, and lavish praise from major mainstream publications and tastemaking outlets worldwide. After years of triumphing as an entirely independent artist, Petras signed to Republic Records/Amigo Records and began a brand-new era that included her viral single “Coconuts” and her sex-positive EP Slut Pop.
Kim Petras’ rise to the mainstream spotlight has been years in the making. In 2022, she made history as the first trans artist to win the Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, shared with Sam Smith for their chart-topping hit “Unholy.” Since then, Petras has been teasing the release of her debut studio album with singles like “If Jesus Was a Rockstar” and “Brrr.”
“Alone” is the latest entry into the collection of pop songs sampling dance tracks from the ’90s and ’00s. Kim Petras is gearing up for an epic performance at Governor’s Ball in NYC this June and will also perform at Life is Beautiful in Las Vegas and The Town in São Paulo, Brazil, this September. She recently headlined Sydney WorldPride in Australia.
