Netflix Drops New Trailer for Vampire Lesbian Romance ‘First Kill’
Netflix has recently released the trailer for its latest queer addition, a young adult lesbian vampire romance series called ‘First Kill.’
The show is set to arrive on the streaming platform on Friday, June 10.
First Kill takes Romeo and Juliet and makes it Carmilla
The show stars Sarah Catherine Hook as freshly turned vampire Juliette, and Imani Lewis as generational monster hunter Calliope.
Juliette is portrayed as soft and sweet in contrast with her true monster nature, while Calliope is shown to bear a courageous heart made of tougher material.
Both girls find themselves faced with the task of making their first kills as vampire and huntress, a rite of passage each must complete for their respective families.
They instead find themselves entangled with one another in a passionate romance, which quickly becomes complicated by their hidden identities.
The two find that their respective missions and targets are not so simple — and are way too easy to fall for.
Joining the stars of the show are Will Swenson, Aubin Wise, Gracie Dzienny, Phillip Mullings Jr., Elizabeth Mitchell, Dominic Goodman, Jason Robert Moore, Jonas Dylan Allen, and Roberto Mendez.
First Kill based on a short story by writer V.E. Schwab
The eight part series is based on a short story by New York Times bestselling author V.E. Schwab originally published in the 2020 anthology, “Vampires Never Get Old: Tals With Fresh Bite.”
Schwab is also currently acting as writer and producer for the series.
Schwab first announced the series to be in the works on Twitter on October 16, 2020.
“Today, it was announced that Netflix has given us a series order. We have our showrunner, we have our writing staff, our room, and this story I would have loved to see as a teen is now, somehow, coming to life.”
The series’ showrunner is Felicia D. Henderson (The Punisher, Gossip Girl), who said in an interview with Shadow and Act that she was inspired to take on First Kill after witnessing her goddaughter undergoing the process of coming out.
“I thought, ‘Boy, this was on when she was 16, how would her life have been different?'” she said, “And I wanted to be part of a world that represented her experience as normal.”
The series was also executively produced by Emma Roberts and Karah Preiss through Belletrist Productions.
