October Sun Sign Profile: Libra (September 23-October 22)

Libra is the only sign in the zodiac represented by an inanimate object; the scales of justice. But who is holding those scales? These good-looking charmers cannot function well hanging around in thin air by themselves! While Aries, their opposite, are AOK leading the pack or striking out into the wilderness alone, Libra is not a soloist. They seek balance through connection. This makes them excellent in all areas that require diplomacy, negotiation, compromise, and communication. They possess special gifts when it comes to bringing people together. But their addiction to love can prompt Libras to coerce, seduce, cajole, and even con, to get others to engage with them. Sure, they are caring partners, but at the end of the day, what they really want is to be taken care of by you!

Although the Sun is considered “weak” in this sign, Libras are no lightweights. They are empowered through interaction.  Idealists, they are drawn to situations where they can pull things into balance. But they hate it when confronted with harsh realities that just aren’t pretty.  Art, Literature, and the Humanities are their playgrounds. But you will also find these folks drawn to Law Enforcement, Law, and Politics, where they can put their ideals into action. But beware of the “used car salesman” effect! Political Libras have an uncanny knack of mesmerizing people with their friendly and approachable presentation to get their way.

And yes, they are known to be attractive. Ruled by Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, they often exude artiness and style. I remember one of my astrologer friends describing this as the Libra Trap. Sort of like a Venus Fly Trap. It’s all about getting you to come close. Libras make great mates, but sometimes struggle once faced with the reality of their lover’s faults and foibles. They prefer to take the good with the good, not the good with the bad!

Libra gets along with fellow air signs Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, but may tend to seek out partnerships with those who are more “opposite” in some ways. They can match up nicely with a powerful Scorpio or a dominant Aries or Leo. Cancer and Capricorn might possibly be the worst match for Libra, as the tense aspects between these signs can block intimacy, which is Libra’s main goal. Dating a Libra? Make sure you like to talk, in the bedroom, too.

For all the Sun Signs: Jupiter goes retrograde the first week of the month, indicating time to take stock and review past lessons and experiences. Saturn will enter the sign of Scorpio on October 6. This will begin to push our karmic truths right into the limelight, so get ready for a heap of reality checks and revelations about things that have been lying beneath the surface. And on October 18 we will enter the dubious “Shadow Period” or preview phase of Mercury Retrograde. This will bring up many issues concerning communication, travel, and technology. Get the computer and the car fixed up early in the month to avoid hassles. Mercury will go retrograde officially on Tuesday, November 6, 2012, Election Day, so get ready for a wild ride!

Aries (March 21-April 19) Focus on relationships and networking this month. And breathe a sigh of relief now that Saturn is no longer opposing you. But don’t get too comfy, as Uranus and Pluto are still challenging you to transform in a big way.

Taurus (April 20-May 20) Reel yourself in and focus on health and well-being. You are about to enter a phase where Saturn in Scorpio will begin to racket up your lesson learning schedule. Don’t fight it, join it! Be conservative and strong, but flexible when confronted with obstacles.

Gemini (May 21-June 20) Jupiter retrograde in your sign may give you some extra time to take advantage of opportunities you’ve tried to avail yourself of this year.
