TransNation Festival hits its 2nd year in LA
TransNation Festival is hitting its stride with their second year run, complete with a film festival this October 13-15 at the Silent Movie Theater in West Hollywood and the Eleganza bash this October 21 at the Cicada Club in downtown LA.
The week-long event is run by St. John’s Well Child and Family Center, which created the Trans Health Program, one of the largest transgender health programs in the country.
Film festival at the TransNation Festival
The 3-day TransNation Film Festival will be guest-hosted by Emmy-nominated producer Zacary Drucker of the docu-series This is Me.
Drucker is also the co-producer of the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning show Transparent, and a cast member of the E! docu-series I am Cait.
During the festival, expect an eclectic program of works by emerging and established filmmakers that reflect the trans experience.
“I can’t imagine a more dynamic, challenging, and crucial time for us to build community around art and storytelling,” said Drucker.
“Working with a politic of love and unity, we programmed this year’s festival to highlight filmmakers and subjects that keep us critical, galvanized, and empowered,” he aded.
Highlights of the film festival include A Tribute to The Cockettes (including screenings of three rare Cockettes-made films: Tricia’s Wedding, Elevator Girls in Bondage, and Palace), RuPaul’s The Starbooty Trilogy, The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson, and Strong Island.
Benefits from the TransNation Festival
Aside from the film festival, there will also be a celebratory event called Eleganza to honor the trans community and close the festival on October 21.
Like last year’s event, which was hosted by Candis Cayne and attended by Caitlyn Jenner and Kelly Osbourne, expect celebrity guests and presenters, as well as members of the trans community.
Jenner is a solid supporter of St. John’s, saying: “You really get excited when you see the results. That’s why I like working with an organization like St. John’s, who are the largest health organization in the country right here in Southern California.”
Because of Jenner’s support, the clinic is honoring her during the festival, according to a report by ABC7.
The TransNation Festival is week-long event that honors the artistic and cultural achievements of the transgender community.
A number of Trans Health Program community events will also be held throughout the week at St. John’s LA clinics.
