BroadStage Presents Sō Percussion with Caroline Shaw and Shodekeh
Sō Percussion, a multi-genre quartet known for their 21st-century blend of precision and anarchy, is set to perform at The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage on April 22nd, joined by co-composer Caroline Shaw and breath artist, beatboxer, and composer Dominic Shodekeh Talifero. The program features selections from their 2020 song cycle, Let the Soil Play Its Simple Part, which is a set of 10 songs that explore soil cultivation as a metaphor for creativity and collaboration. The performance will also feature Sō Percussion’s Eric Cha-Beach’s “4+9” and Pauline Oliveros’s “Rolling Meditation.”
Before the main stage performance, Santa Monica College students will present a sonic pre-show created during Shodekeh’s Breath Art workshops, exploring the boundaries of the human voice within and outside the context of Hip Hop music and culture.
Sō Percussion and Caroline Shaw’s Narrow Sea won the 2022 Grammy for Best Composition, adding to their catalog of over 25 albums. Sō Percussion is also currently performing at various venues, including the Music Academy of the West Festival, Newport Classical, Time Spans in New York, and Our Festival in Helsinki. Their performances are characterized by their telepathic communication and collaborations with musicians in various genres.
